New Arrival @ Gallery 18 - Stuart I. McDowell
  ——

Another new arrival at Gallery 18 in New London, P.E.I. This time a major early painting by island-born artist Stuart McDowell.
Stuart Irvine McDowell (1946-2011) was born in Pleasant Valley, PEI. He was a master model maker, commercial artist, sculptor, and printmaker. McDowell studied commercial art at Algonquin College in Ottawa, sculpture at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, and printmaking at Capilano College Art Centre in North Vancouver. He worked for several model companies across Canada, and for many years was manager and co-owner of Summit Models in Vancouver. McDowell made architectural models of commercial buildings, resident subdivisions, golf courses, fish farms, and dam projects. His models appear in the Ontario Science Centre and the Royal Ontario Museum, both in Toronto, as well as the Maritime Museum in Vancouver and the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria. In addition, his models have been displayed in Egypt, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and in several US states. He produced major displays for Parks Canada's Roger's Pass Center, and the Baffin Island Visitors' Center in Iqaluit. McDowell also worked to produce sets for several movies, including Stakeout, Roxanne, and Distant Thunder, along with the TV series MacGyvor. Although most of his working life was off island, he returned to PEI in the summers. McDowell died in North Vancouver, British Columbia.
