Gallery 18 Ltd. in New London, PEI, is offering an original antique map of present-day Prince Edward Island. The chart is titled, A Map of the Island of St. John In the Gulf of St. Laurence Divided into Counties & Parishes And the Lots, as granted by Government. The map first appeared in The American Atlas published by Sayer & Bennett, London, 1775.
[ This is not a modern reproduction! ]
The map is based on the coastal survey by Captain Samuel Holland and his team done in 1764 and '65. This year, 2015, marks the 250th anniversary of the completion of Holland's coastal survey of the island.
The map is a copper-engraving measuring 14 1/4" tall, by to 27 1/2" wide (to the neat line). It appears to be untrimmed with ample margins. The map is blank on the reverse. It shows a center-fold, as issued. The map is uncolored. Overall, we rate the condition as good.
